Band at Territorial Congress, 2007 - 06/11/07
Last weekend the band once again travelled over to see our celtic neighbours in Scotland to participate in the 2007 Territorial Congress. It was an early start for the band and after mustering at the hall just after 6am we boarded the coach and set off for Glasgow. Once we arrived and checked in we had a short rehearsal we had time to enjoy the what Glasgow had to offer. The following day was an early start and after going swimming and enjoying a meal at the hotel the band processed in convoy down to the Royal Concert Hall. We had a brief moment to set up and then the afternoon programme commenced. There were 4 sections on duty, each one producing a 12 - 15 minute programme. The first half was led by the East and West Scotland Music School band and chorus before the International Staff Songsters and ourselves took to the stage. The ISS got the second half underway and sung a number of songs, old and new. The band opened up with Dean Jones' 'El Es El Senor' featuring deputy BM Jonathan Corry. Jonathan stayed on his feet and was joined by principal cornet Mark Murray for a new duet commisioned as a solo for Gordon Ward entitled 'Forward'. The band maintained the upbeat mood of the concert with 'Go down, Moses' and 'Swingtime Religion'. The band had a short break before returning to the stage to contribute to the evening worship. As well as accompanying songs the band played "South Coast", "Nicaea", "Fanfare of Praise" and "Amsterdam Congress March". It was a pleasure to have the Belfast Drama group accompany us on this trip and their contributions to the meetings were really fantastic and thought-provoking.
